DTS Media Arts Portfolio Program

In the last three years, the Master of Arts in Media and Communication (M.A./MC) degree has tripled in size. As a result, DTS has developed a media portfolio program to supplement each student’s work. A portfolio is a standard expectation of anyone who wishes to work in any type of media upon graduation. The use of media in Christian ministry has dramatically grown in the past several years in an effort not only to attract the younger generation, but also to pair one’s natural abilities with the ever-increasing technological capabilities available in the ministry setting.

The Media Arts Portfolio Program was officially established in Spring 2008 and is open to anyone in the M.A./MC degree and those in the Th.M. program with the Media Arts in Ministry concentration. Worship, performing, and writing are the three specific areas in which a student may build his or her portfolio. Each area has very specific guidelines as to what materials are eligible for inclusion in the portfolio.

“The kind of creative students we get at DTS deserve an equally creative approach to prepare them for their roles as artists in the Christian community,” says Reg Grant, director of M.A./MC. “The portfolio option provides artist-minded opportunities that enable these students to blend the discipline of their art with their theology. The portfolio will help give students credibility that will open doors for them to preach the Word in a society desperate for a life-giving word of truth.”
