WALVOORD
GERALDINE L. born in Geneva, Illinois on September 6, 1914 went to be with the Lord whom she loved and served all of her life on September 6, 2007. She was best known as a partner in ministry with her husband, John F. Walvoord, long-time president and chancellor of Dallas Theological Seminary. She ministered with him throughout the United States and on five continents including Australia and New Zealand.
Geraldine was a graduate of Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College and taught in both public and private schools. She married John F. Walvoord on June 28, 1939 and moved to Texas. She was a loving companion and helpmate during the 63 years of their marriage.
She was best know as a Bible teacher, teaching Moody Bible Institute’s Scofield courses for Dallas-area women’s Bible study groups. She served as president of the Dallas Seminary Women’s Auxiliary and founded the Wives’ Fellowship at the Seminary. For thirty years she opened her home to every first-year class of students and every graduating class. Christian leaders from around the world had many a theological discussion at her dinner table. Loved by countless students, pastors, Bible teachers and friends, she was appreciated by all for her generous hospitality and personal interest in those she shared fellowship with.
She served as pianist at Rosen Heights Presbyterian Church in Ft. Worth and organist at Reinhardt Bible Church in Dallas for more than 30 years. At her death she was an active member of Redeemer Bible Church in Dallas.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her son Dr. Timothy Walvoord in 1979, her sister Harriet L. Evans in 1998 and her beloved husband in 2002. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. John E. Walvoord of Dallas; James R. Walvoord of Manchaca, Texas; and Paul D. Walvoord of Denton; her daughter-in-law Paula Anne Walvoord; and sister Gladys E. Madsen of Delray Beach, Florida.
Geraldine will be remembered by her love and laughter, a woman who walked with the Lord through her joys and sorrows. In her written testimony she said, “Life is not a haphazard thing. Our days are tailor made for each one of us by a loving Heavenly Father who sees the end from the beginning.” Her last day was September 6, 2007, her 93rd birthday.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M on Sunday, September 9, at Redeemer Bible Church, 721 Easton Drive, Dallas, with Dr. Don Geiger officiating. Graveside services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Geraldine Walvoord may be made to Dallas Theological Seminary, 3909 Swiss Ave., Dallas, Texas 75204.
