DTS Recycling and Environmental Resources

Dallas Seminary is committed to doing its part for the environment that God has entrusted to man. The Facilities & Plant Operations Department partners with the campus for the efficient use of earth resources and recycling. Numerous energy benchmarking efforts with other schools has shown that our energy usage is below average; in fact in some cases, we used half the energy of other campuses.

Ongoing Initiatives

We have initiated five voluntary environmentally friendly programs:

  • Custodial Services – Green Clean initiatives with pre-measured biohazard cleaning chemicals, micro fiber mops, and HEPA filtered vacuum cleaners.
  • Pest Control – Pest control is performed with organic EPA approved environmentally friendly products.
  • Paper Recycling – During 2004-2005, we diverted over 178 tons (446 cubic yards) of recyclable paper from the landfill to the recycling facility, saving the seminary $2,600 in waste disposal costs. We recycled enough paper to save 2,006 trees (without any hugging)!
  • Aluminum Recycling – Currently testing sites on campus to determine responsiveness.
  • Furniture Recycling– An online donation center has been developed for students living in onsite housing as well as faculty and staff to donate furniture that they no longer need to other students. Donors outside the campus may also use this service for donating furniture-type items to students. Luke's Online

Future Facility Planning

Dallas Seminary’s Leadership work closely with the Facilities & Plant Operations who are immersed within the industry to ensure we are specifying or preparing for the use of sustainable, renewable and efficient products in our buildings wherever possible.
