New D.Min. Emphases
Introducing Two New Emphases offered in Dallas Theological Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry Program:
A) Large Church Pastors Emphasis
B) Executive/Associate Pastors Emphasis
Each emphasis will be formatted as a modified cohort, which means the same students will go through a designated part of the program together. The program will use procedures similar to the Harvard Business School case study approach. Each cohort will meet simultaneously for two weeks (with the weekend in-between free), two consecutive summers. The first two-week session will meet July 24–August 4, 2006 and the second July 23–August 3, 2007. Our research indicates that two-week segments are the most conducive for students to achieve appropriate connections with peers.
The Large Church Pastors Emphasis will be coordinated by Andy Seidel and Brad Smith. Andy Seidel is Executive Director of the Howard Hendricks Center for Christian Leadership, Dallas, TX. Brad Smith is President of Northwest Graduate School, Seattle, WA. The Executive/Associate Pastors Emphasis will be facilitated by David Fletcher. David is Executive Pastor of Grace Covenant Church, Austin, TX. His ministry to Executive Pastors is extensive and may be observed at www.xpastor.org.
Each student in these cohorts will be part of a “Band of Brothers” type group of 3-5 individuals that will be a source of fellowship and encouragement. Between the two summer sessions the members of the group, along with their spouses, will be required to attend the Leadership Evaluation and Development seminar put on by the Howard Hendricks Center for Christian Leadership, for 3 hours of D.Min. credit. http://www.dts.edu/departments/campus/ccl/lead/
This method of study will be an excellent opportunity for students to interact and learn from others in similar areas of ministry. Case studies will evaluate church problems, programs and/or procedures that are unique to large church pastors and executive/associate pastors. All case studies will be read by the instructors and fellow students. Some student case studies may be presented in class. The seminars will involve on-site field trips to large churches in the area and seasoned professionals will be invited to class to discuss case studies in their designated areas of ministry. Students will normally develop their case studies into their dissertation project.
Applicants must possess an accredited M.Div., Th.M., or M.Div. equivalent, as well as two years of Greek and one year of Hebrew. Prospective students holding other accredited theological masters degrees (such as Christian Education), may qualify by taking leveling courses to make their degree M.Div. equivalent, including a 3-hour modular (one week) course to satisfy the language requirement.
