Dallas Seminary/University of North Texas Ed.D./Ph.D. Program

Students enrolled in the master’s degree programs at DTS [MACE or ThM/CE] who are interested in the collaborative doctoral degree should contact and visit with the Department Chair of MACE at DTS and with the Program Coordinator for the Program in Higher Education at UNT for admission and program information.

Eligibility and Application

  • Master’s degree students at DTS who have completed, at least, 30 semester hours or more toward the master’s degree, but who have not earned the master’s degree, may apply to the Doctoral Program in Higher Education at UNT. A DTS student should apply to UNT during the last two or three semesters at DTS. To be able to transfer the minor from DTS to UNT, the master’s degree student at DTS must be admitted to UNT before the master’s degree is awarded by DTS.
  • The applicant meets all requirements for application to UNT. The Program in Higher Education admits students in the spring and fall. March 1st is the deadline to apply for admission for the summer or fall semesters; October 1st is the deadline to apply for admission for the spring semester. Applications require submission of GRE score, acceptable GPA of 3.4, UNT graduate application, Program application, letters of reference, and transcripts. No action is taken until all of these are reviewed. Individuals meeting the entry requirements based on these data are invited to campus for an interview to complete the admission process. DTS students must be admitted before the master’s degree is awarded by DTS for the 12 hours from the masters’ degree at DTS to count toward the minor for the doctoral degree at UNT.
  • The Doctoral Degree in Higher Education requires a residency of 18 semester hours, which may be completed in one calendar year, at UNT for the Ed.D. The residency for the Ph.D. requires completion of 9 semester hours at UNT in two consecutive semesters.
  • Upon admission to the doctoral program identify and get approved the 12 semester hours from the master’s degree that will be accepted for transfer from DTS to UNT for the minor in the doctoral degree. These would be graduate hours that would normally transfer to UNT for a degree.
  • Applicants may choose the Ed.D. or the Ph.D. in Higher Education. The requirements are:
