English Proficiency / TOEFL
The demonstration of English proficiency is required of all applicants for whom English is not their native or birth language or who were not born in the United States of America. This applies even if the applicant is a United States citizen, has attended an American or English-speaking school, and/or is a long-time resident of an English-speaking country.
Applicants demonstrate their proficiency in English by submitting satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), taken within two years of the date of application.
The minimum internet-based TOEFL score (iBT) is 85, with subscores of at least 22 in the speaking and listening sections, 20 in the writing/structure section, and 21 in the reading section.
The minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT) is 575, with subscores of at least 56 on each of its three sections. At least 4.5 is required for the TWE portion of the TOEFL (PBT).

The minimum score on the IELTS is 6.5, with subscores of at least 6.5 in the listening, reading, and speaking sections, and 6.0 in the writing section.
