English Proficiency / TOEFL

International applicants whose native or birth language is not English are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English by submitting satisfactory Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Written English (TWE) scores taken within two years of the date of application.

The minimum internet-based TOEFL score (iBT) is 85, with subscores of at least 22 in the speaking and listening sections, 20 in the writing/structure section, and 21 in the reading section. The iBT TOEFL includes the TWE as a written essay.

The minimum computer-based TOEFL score (CBT) is 233, with subscores of at least 22 in the reading and listening sections, and 23 in the writing/structure section. The CBT TOEFL includes the TWE as a written essay. We require at least a 4.5 on the essay score.

The minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT) is 575, with subscores of at least 56 on each of its three sections. The TWE is a separate test with the PBT version. Therefore make sure to schedule the TOEFL on a day in which the TWE is also offered. A minimum score of at least 4.5 is required for the TWE.
