English Proficiency / TOEFL
International applicants whose native or birth language is not English are required to
demonstrate their proficiency in English by submitting satisfactory Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Written English (TWE) scores
taken within two years of the date of application.
The minimum internet-based TOEFL score (iBT) is 85, with subscores of at least 22 in the
speaking and listening sections, 20 in the writing/structure section, and 21 in
the reading section. The iBT TOEFL includes the TWE as a written essay.
The minimum computer-based TOEFL score (CBT) is 233, with subscores of at least 22 in the
reading and listening sections, and 23 in the writing/structure section. The
CBT TOEFL includes the TWE as a written essay. We require at least a 4.5 on the
essay score.
The minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT) is 575, with subscores of at least 56 on
each of its three sections. The TWE is a separate test with the PBT version. Therefore
make sure to schedule the TOEFL on a day in which the TWE is also offered. A
minimum score of at least 4.5 is required for the TWE.
