Addie Shepherd
Admissions Secretary
Hi friends! Welcome to the DTS Team Admissions website. I’m sure you have plenty of questions and concerns, but take heart, we are here to help! I am currently a part-time, M.A./BC student hoping to graduate in 2014. I began my degree in Fall 2007, but my journey began about a year before that as I began praying and asking some of the same things that you probably are now. My best advice: let the Lord guide you in this process and trust His direction. If DTS is what He has in store for you, He is able to overcome any obstacle that may be of concern. I’ve watched Him do it time and time again in my own seminary experience. If there is any way that we can help, please give us a call or schedule a visit. We are here to be used by Him as you step out to discover what He has for you!
There are many things that I love about DTS. I love the size of the campus. I love the friends I have made since I’ve been here. I love the classes and the training I’ve received. But most of all, I love the way the professors model their theology in the way they live their lives. Some of the wisest men and women in the world teach here at DTS, but their knowledge has not puffed them up. Their gentleness is evident. They exhibit godly character as they seek to use their wisdom to not only educate their students, but to lead them into deeper love for the Lord.
But don’t take my word for it…come and see for yourself! Schedule a campus visit or participate in one of our Day @ DTS (focus) events. We’d be happy to partner with you as you prayerfully determine if a seminary degree from DTS is right for you!
What are your hobbies or outside interests?
Listening to good music, especially live. Travel. Dancing. Watching movies. Reading. Napping. Dining out. Karaoke. Hanging with friends and family. Mavericks Basketball!
What made you decide to go to DTS?
Over the years, I had briefly considered that “one day” I might pursue seminary. Many of my most respected pastors, teachers and Young Life heroes had DTS degrees or ties. I had also thought that “one day” I might go back to pursue a Masters in Counseling. When I discovered that I could do both at DTS, and with the encouragement of friends, I decided it was time.
What do you do on your day off?
Besides catching up on “life” stuff (i.e. bills, groceries, cleaning, homework) I like to sleep in and/or take naps, hang out with friends, read, listen to music, watch movies, or go out to eat. A road trip every now and again is also fun!
What are your favorite foods?
Dr. Pepper, Snuffer’s cheese fries, Mexican-especially if it includes Chuy’s jalapeno ranch, Wing Stop, a great steak and baked potato, ice cream (Phish food is my fav!), Stefanie’s red velvet cheesecake cake-Cheesecake Factory, sweet potato fries, Honey Nut Cheerios, Coco Puffs!
What is your favorite television show of all time?
I’m not a big t.v. watcher. I’ve seen every episode of Felicity. But I also appreciate The Office, Seinfeld, Friends and 24. If I’m watching t.v. it’s usually because there’s a MAVS game on!
What is the best part about working in the DTS admissions office?
Well, I haven’t been here long, but the reputation of Team Admissions precedes itself. I love being in an environment that is encouraging and uplifting with a team that knows how to love and serve others well.
What is your favorite piece of literature?
Ruthless Trust by Brennan Mannin
What is your favorite quote?
“If you’re not somewhere between scared and excited, you’re not doing anything worthwhile”
What is your favorite musical artist/group/genre of music?
I love lots of different genres and artists. At the top would be John Mayer, Jason Mraz, The Fray, Keith Urban, Coldplay, DMB, Jack Johnson, Hillsong, Regina Spektor, Lady Antebellum, John Legend, Shane and Shane, Chris Tomlin, Phil Wickham, Cake, Michael Buble, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, and many more.
Who is the person you admire most and why?
The top of this list would be Tricia Waits and Brenda Cox (personal friends and mentors). I would also add Dr. Allman, Dr. Horrell, and Dr. Marten (DTS profs) to the list. One thing they all have in common is their vulnerability before others with their life’s struggles. They have allowed the Lord to use their life’s experiences to encourage others and I appreciate that kind of “real-ness.”
Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
The sinful woman with the alabaster jar in Luke 7:36-50. She loved much because she was forgiven much. She didn’t count the cost or worry about anyone else’s opinion when it came to pouring out her live before the Lord. Her love for him caused her to live with reckless abandon.
If you could have superhero powers, what would they be?
To transport myself.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Well, my travel list is a mile long, and I’d be open to living anywhere the Lord led me. New places excite me! I prefer a small town. Some place close to family & friends, plenty of restaurants, movies, shopping, country-dancing, a good church, a lake or beach, and close enough to the big city for anything else I might want or need!
