International Student Admissions Counselor
  • B.A., English (Spanish Minor), Dallas Baptist University, 2009;
  • Worked in Admissions since: Spring 2010

I hope that the Lord allows DTS to bless your life as this seminary has blessed my life. Recently, I was given the privilege of being the International Student Admissions Counselor! Having worked with international students for the last three and a half years, I am blessed to be able to help people from around the world follow God’s will as it leads them to this incredible school. I have been impressed by the warmth and openness of everyone who works and serves at DTS. The atmosphere of DTS is very nurturing to students both academically and personally, and this sense of community extends in and out of the classroom into every facet of the students and employee’s lives.

I pray that the Lord draws you to DTS, because I know that this is a place to learn about His will for you and to be equipped with the tools to accomplish what He would have you do for His kingdom. Of course, please feel free to contact us at the Admissions Office so that we can help you in every way possible! We would love to hear from you!

What are your hobbies or outside interests?
If books were food, I’d be starving. I’m obsessed with language and culture studies, particularly fiction that deals with the two interests combined. I love traveling, and if I had my way, I would visit a new country every six months!

What made you decide to go to DTS?
DTS has a firm biblical foundation, a living and growing ministry to students and the community, an impressive variety of programs offered, and an oasis-like Dallas campus near busy downtown. What truly drew me to DTS, above all these, was its non-denominational atmosphere that promotes Biblically-informed dialogue and diversity.

What do you do on your day off?
Read, spend time with family and friends, check out international food markets for new things to try, relax outside (however hot it may be).

What are your favorite foods?
I would have to say that one of my favorite would either be Asian or Hispanic food. Yep, anything Asian or Hispanic. Having spent time in Mexico City and in Beijing, I find it impossible to decide between the two.

What is your favorite television show of all time?
It’s a close tie between Jeeves and Wooster and Fraiser.

What is the best part about working in the DTS admissions office?
It is composed of one of the most warm, fun, loving and productive group of people I have ever known. We have the blessed opportunity to work directly with students who desire to dedicate their lives to the study of the nature and works of God.

What is your favorite piece of literature?
As a former English major, I am always in the midst of four or five books. I am increasingly drawn daily to the Bible as a beautiful piece of literature. I also love to read non-fiction and fictional accounts of people in foreign cultures. Most recently those include: Le Testament Francais (Andrei Makine), Serendipity (Umberto Eco), The Galsworthy Saga (John Galsworthy) Anna Karenina (Tolstoy), the Lord of the Rings books (Tolkein), and the Aubrey and Maturin series (O’Brian).

What is your favorite quote?
I have two favorite quotes. “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.”—Proverbs 25:2

“How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me. It’s like a book elegantly bound but in a language that you can’t read just yet.” from “I Will Possess Your Heart”—Death Cab for Cutie

What is your favorite musical artist/group/genre of music?
As a pianist, I would have to say classical music would be my “what if you were stuck on an island” music of choice. I would sorely miss the rest of my large music library that includes Latin pop, Ella Fitzgerald, MuteMath, Coldplay, and many others.

Who is the person you admire most and why?
I admire my mother. She continually displays a heart that desires to do the work of God, and her actions are ones of wisdom, humility and strength.

Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
Ruth. Her story is a wonderful example of God’s redemption of circumstance and people, and it is a story about love and relationships.

If you could have superhero powers, what would they be?
Teleportation and the ability to understand all languages. How cool would those be?!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
I would live in a house surrounded by trees with enough room for my books and evenings filled with family, friends and foreign food.
