Sarita Fowler
Admissions Counselor
(Se habla espanol)
Hello! Welcome to DTS! I’m so excited you are interested in Dallas Theological Seminary. My father is a graduate from DTS, and I have dreamed of coming to this school for a long time. Sometimes I still can’t believe I’m here. How thrilling to think that you could be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime just by considering attendance at DTS.
I grew up in Orlando, Florida and started attending DTS at the Tampa Extension site. From the first moment on the Tampa campus, I knew my life would never be the same. I have tremendously enjoyed learning from the professors and fellow students in my classes. Also, I met my husband here, which was a welcomed surprise to my plans. You never know how the Lord will shape you while you're at DTS!
Currently, I am a student in the Master of Theology Program, focusing on Systematic Theology, and I love it. My mother is from Havana, Cuba, and I have always enjoyed the Spanish language and the Hispanic culture. After I graduate, I would like to teach at a Bible college and work with a Hispanic ministry in a church or a parachurch organization. My husband, Nathan, is studying to be a pastor, and we're excited to see how the Lord will use us in ministry within the local church.
My job as an Admissions Counselor is to help you with your transition to DTS. I am thankful the Lord has placed me in this ministry position so that I may serve you.
What does the Lord have in store for you? We would love to have you here with us at DTS. Please, if you have any questions about the application process, the school in general, or just want to talk about your concerns, don’t hesitate to call!
What are your hobbies or outside interests?
Reading, watching movies and eating popcorn, drinking coffee or some other hot beverage and chatting with friends
What made you decide to go to DTS?
I wanted to study every book of the Bible and every division of theology from renowned professors.
What do you do on your day off?
What does any seminary student do? Study! I also call my family and like to hang out with my friends. Pretty much, I enjoy doing anything that involves food and fun people.
What are your favorite foods?
For breakfast, lunch and dinner, ice cream is on the menu! I really like Cuban food as well—black beans and rice, plátanos, yuca, chicken marinated in mojo sauce…yum!
What is your favorite television show of all time?
It’s a toss up between the A-Team (who can compare with Mr. T?) and MacGuyver (has anyone else ever looked that good in a mullet?).
What is the best part about working in the DTS admissions office?
How can I pick just one thing? Certainly, I love working with the prospective students and stellar staff. My Teammates are some of my closest friends. Who wouldn’t love working with their friends?
What is your favorite piece of literature?
The Chronicles of Narnia (I love all the books!) I’ll read anything written by C.S. Lewis.
What is your favorite quote?
This is such a difficult question because there is a plethora of great quotes out there, for example: the entire script of The Princess Bride and Star Wars (The Original Trilogy). There are a few others that come to mind at the moment:
- “The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.” –Edmund Burke
- “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” –Bruce Wayne, Batman Begins
What is your favorite musical artist/group/genre of music?
I like a lot of different genre’s of music - classical, jazz, rock, indie and yes, even pop. Some of my all-time favorites are Simon and Garfunkel, Journey, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, The Mamas and The Papas, Kansas, Queen, Thousand Foot Krutch, The Myriad, The Wedding, Thrice, Mute Math, and Phil Whickam. I may or may not have the BeeGee’s Greatest Hits.
Who is the person you admire most and why?
My parents, for their sincere love for the Lord, their self-discipline and their compassion for other believers.
Who is your favorite Bible character and why?
Samuel. He was consistently obedient even when God told him to confront King Saul. His story is a wonderful example of faithfulness in frightening circumstances.
If you could have superhero powers, what would they be?
Flying would be number one, then definitely being able to move things with my mind would be a close second. It would make cleaning so much easier! Third, being able to find instantly whatever I was looking for…how much time I would save!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
I would be happy just living close to my family, wherever they are. But, for the sake of not wanting to sound too corny, I’ll choose Spain, Australia, or the United Kingdom, hoping I would pick up an accent.
