Spiritual Formation & Leadership

Program Overview

The purpose of the Spiritual Formation and Leadership Department is to contribute to the Seminary's purpose of developing godly servant-leaders through the use of:

  1. Leadership studies and courses to develop student knowledge and competency in leadership
  2. Small groups to encourage the growth of student character and spiritual maturity as the foundation for leadership
  3. Field-based education to help students integrate classroom studies and character growth with field ministry as they acquire, reinforce, and refine ministry knowledge and skills

The Spiritual Formation and Leadership (SFL) department develops students through two major programs:

Spiritual Formation (Small Groups)

Servant Leadership (Internships)

First and second year ThM, MA/CE, MA/CM, and MA/MC students are required to enroll in SF101-104 their first four semesters, followed by the 2 or 3 hour Servant Leadership Internship that corresponds to their degree track. MA/BEL students are required to enroll in SF245 their first two semesters. Although not required to enroll in Spiritual Formation, STM students must enroll in a 1-hour Servant Leadership Internship.

Other degree plan students are welcomed to participate in either SF101-104 or a Servant Leadership Internship as an elective of their degree plan.
