Giving Birth in the U.S.

Pregnancy costs range from $4500 - $25,000 USD. If you have elected to pay the high-option, DTS health insurance prior to pregnancy, you will still be responsible to pay 50% of that total! If the wife arrives in the US when already pregnant, she will be given no insurance, and you will pay the full amount of medical charges. Remember that public Medicaid is not an option for non-immigrant students. Many internationals or at least the mothers return to their homeland briefly for cheaper pre-natal and delivery costs.

Education for Your Children

If you have children and want to put them in a public school, it is important that you check the quality of the schooling before deciding where you live. You can only choose a school that is within a designated area of your home residence. Public schools are free and those in Richardson, Garland, or Mesquite are recommended. Enroll your children at the school of your district as soon as possible as schools fill up quickly.

Christian private schools are an option, though expensive. Some offer scholarships, if applications are made before June. Try to apply before arriving, and send proof of your application to DTS. You can download the Christian Schools list, which shows Christian schools in the area. If you have any questions, please contact the Student Services Department.
