Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) and College of Biblical Studies (CBS) strive to fulfill similar missions. Both educational institutions endeavor to impart biblical truth to students in order for them to grow in a deep relationship with Christ and to impact the world with the truth of the gospel in whatever area of ministry they are called.
How it works
Year 1-3:
- Complete your first 90 credit hours at College of Biblical Studies
- Apply to Dallas Theological Seminary
Year 4:
- Take dual credit courses from DTS
- Graduate from College of Biblical Studies!
Year 5-6:
- Complete the remaining 60 hours at DTS
- Graduate from Dallas Theological Seminary!

What CBS major do students need to be for the 4+1?
Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies (no minor) – Only available for English speaking students

What CBS major do students need to be for the 4+2?
Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies (no minor) – Only available for English speaking students

How do students fulfill the Spiritual Formation requirements?
Students will do SF5110 Mentored SF in their final year at CBS. The application deadline for Fall SF5110 applications.
Students will register for SF according to the CBS location of their studies.
What grades do I need to earn in my classes?
Maintain a B or higher in your CBS courses that will count towards DTS advanced standing. Make an appointment with your CBS advisor about which courses apply to the 4+1 or 4+2 program. Students must earn a C or higher in any DTS class that need to be transferred back to CBS.
Can you apply with more than 90 credit hours?
Yes, but you must be a current student at CBS.
If I’m accepted to CBS, am I automatically accepted to DTS?
No. You will still need to apply at DTS. Apply at www.dts.edu/apply.
When should I apply to DTS for the 4+2?
You should apply to DTS during the semester when you are going to complete 90 hours, usually the spring of your Junior year. Please send in a transcript for the work you have completed (e.g., 75 hours) with your admissions application. Please note: you will need to send DTS an updated transcript with 90 or more completed hours before you begin your classes at DTS, and again when you have graduated from CBS.
I graduated from CBS am I still eligible for the 4+1 or 4+2?
Eligibility for the 4+1 and 4+2 programs are limited to current CBS students. However, CBS graduates may sign up for course-by-course advanced standing. Students can also opt for accelerated advanced standing–if within one of graduation.

4+2 Questions:
Do ThM students need to do two Agape Projects?
Yes, this is required by all ThM students. Students will need to begin working on these their first semester at DTS and are advised to do one in NT5105 Exegesis of Romans and BC5101 Pastoral Counseling and Ethics prior to their internship. Find more information about Agape Projects here.
Which ThM concentrations are available to pursue in this partnership?
Students can pursue any ThM concentration at DTS. However, certain concentrations may push students beyond the 120-hours in the ThM due to 9 hours of advanced standing credit.
Academic Artifact
An academic artifact is a paper submitted per your CBS class requirements for a minimum B or higher grade. The evaluation process of this artifact will assess and determine your ability to argue accurately and effectively on a chosen research topic.The artifact must be ten pages in length and include at least ten sources. It must have been written during your coursework at CBS, and in certain circumstances, a professor may allow students to revise the artifact achieving the minimum grade requirement. Transfer students to CBS may also participate by submitting an academic paper used at a previous institution to a CBS professor for evaluation. In both instances, after approval from the professor, the student will provide the artifact for filing purposes to the Admissions department at DTS.
