The Master of Biblical and Theological Studies degree program is designed to provide students with an introductory course of study in Bible and theology to inform their ministry service in the workforce, home, or local church.

A Comprehensive Overview of Scripture and Theology

The MBTS is designed for men and women seeking a structured introduction to the full scope of the biblical story and core theological concepts. Students complete coursework that surveys the breadth of Scripture, explores key doctrinal themes, and selects electives aligned with their interests or calling. By grounding everyday service in deeper theological understanding, the program equips graduates to live and minister faithfully in a wide range of contexts.

Program Goals

Students in the MBTS program will:

  • Demonstrate the personal and spiritual discipline necessary for sustained Christian service;
  • Apply insights from their seminary studies to their life and ministry;
  • Articulate the metanarrative of Scripture;
  • Evidence a general knowledge of Christian theology, including an ability to support their theological views;
  • Demonstrate a general knowledge of the Bible, including an understanding of the message and arguments of specific books of the Bible;
  • Display Christlikeness in their pursuit of knowledge and relationships within the seminary community

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements and application procedures for the MBTS are the same as for all programs of study at the seminary. Please refer to the Admission section of the catalog for more information. Because the MBTS provides only an introductory level of biblical and theological education, it is not designed to prepare students for pastoral, teaching, or other vocational ministries. Therefore, individuals desiring this type of training should apply to one of the seminary’s ministry-oriented MA programs or the ThM.
