Mutual Forbearance

When asked why his thirty-year marriage was a success when so many of his Hollywood friends were getting divorced, Robert Mitchum replied, “Mutual forbearance. We have each continued to believe that the other will do better tomorrow.” The apostle Paul would agree. “I, therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live worthily of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love...” (Eph. 4:1-2) Appreciate your wife for who she is and who she is becoming, and you won’t need to change much at all.
