Preaching on Riverboats
Francis Asbury was the first Methodist Episcopal bishop in the United States. He traveled over two-hundred seventy-thousand miles across the frontier between 1771 and 1816, preaching wherever people gathered – in churches and camp meetings, to be sure, but also on riverboats, and in bordello parlors. “How are they to call on one they have not believed in? And how are they to believe in one they have not heard of? And how are they to hear without someone preaching to them?” (Rom. 10:14) Think about it – where aren’t you willing to go so share the gospel?
