The Mention of Your Name
Once, when writer Carson McCullers’ mother was on a bus on her way to visit her daughter in New York, she began visiting with an aristocratic lady who said she enjoyed reading. The proud mom launched into a long list of her daughter’s literary achievements. After awhile, the woman mentioned that her father had also been a writer. Carson’s mother asked the woman’s name. “Countess Tolstoy,” she replied. “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. (Prov. 11:2) Live to so honor Christ, that at the mere mention of your name, the proud are humbled.
