The Wisdom of Humility
In 1941 Sergeant James Ward was awarded the Victoria cross for climbing onto the wing of his bomber, 13,000 feet up to extinguish a fire in the starboard engine. Churchill summoned him for a visit, but Ward was awestruck upon meeting him and could barely speak. “You must feel very humble and awkward in my presence,” Churchill said. “Yes sir,” Ward said. “Then,” said Churchill, “you can imagine how humble and awkward I feel in yours.” Prov. 11:2: “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Look for greatness in others today. And exalt them.
