To Shame the Wise
Hilda, abbess of Whitby in the 7th century encouraged gifted believers to glorify Christ with their talents. It was Hilda who recognized the poetic talent in an illiterate herdsman named Caedmon. She invited him to join her monastery as a lay brother where he became the earliest and one of the greatest Anglo-Saxon Christian poets. “But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.” (1 Corinthians 1: 27) Pray that God will give you a heart for encouraging others to use their talents for him.
