MA in Biblical Counseling (MABC) Advising
The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MABC students often ask three questions:
- 1. Where do I find information regarding state LPC requirements?
Students are required to know the Licensed Professional Counseling requirements for their state. These requirements may differ from degree completion requirements. LPC requirements can be found by contacting state LPC boards.
- 2. How do I select a practicum site?
Students must select an approved practicum site prior to starting BC310 (Counseling Practicum II).
Students should choose a counseling practicum site that aligns with their professional and ministerial goals. The Biblical Counseling Department provides a list of potential practicum locations. Students are responsible for securing their own practicum site which meets departmental criteria. For more information, contact the Biblical Counseling Department.
- 3. How do I select my Biblical Counseling courses?
See our planned course offerings to find out when core Biblical Counseling courses are offered on the Dallas campus. While it is ideal to take BC courses alongside of BE and ST courses, part-time Dallas campus students should prioritize their Biblical Counseling courses when creating their semester schedules. Students should attempt to follow the course sequence outlined in the catalog as closely as possible:
Fall Only Spring Only BC102 BC205 BC215 BC245 BC210 BC220 BC230 BC225 BC235 BC250 BC240 BC280
Fall Only Spring Only Summer Only BC220 BC102 BC215 BC235 BC210 BC225 BC250 BC245 BC230 BC280 BC310 BC240 BC305 BC315
The MABC program also requires 9 elective hours for students entering before Fall 2015 which must be taken from courses offered by the Biblical Counseling Department (courses with the “BC” prefix). Students entering Fall 2015 or later must take 6 elective hours. Professors in the BC department can advise students regarding which courses will best prepare them for their desired ministry context and specialization.
