MA (Christian Studies) and
MA (Biblical Studies) Advising
The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MACS/MA(BS) students often ask three questions:
- 1. How many times do I need to attend classes on a campus?
Since the MACS/MA(BS) is not considered vocational ministry degree, no classes must be completed on the Dallas campus to satisfy a residency requirement.
The Advising Center recommends that MACS/MABS students complete EML105: Teaching Process and Media Presentations (or EML103 and EML104 separately) or EML450: Women Teaching Women in order to satisfy both their communications and Christian Education requirements. Currently, only EML103 and EML104 are available online.
Students working from a distance should plan to take EML103/104 to satisfy the communications requirement.
- 2. How do I complete my degree within the 7-year time limit?
The MACS/MABS must be completed within 7 years. The Advising Center recommends that students attempt to complete the degree in no more than 5 years so that adjustments can be made and a degree plan can be lengthened should the need arise. The MACS/MABS is designed to be accomplished in as few as 5 summers on the Dallas campus.
In order to complete the MACS/MABS in 5 years students must plan to attempt at least 12-13 credit-hours each academic year. Please see our MACS/MA(BS) 5-year Distance Plan for a proposed degree strategy.
- 3. How do I satisfy my Spiritual Formation requirement?
All MACS/MA(BS) students who entered DTS during or after the 2012-13 academic year are required to participate in Spiritual Formation.
Students residing in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area are required to participate in the traditional four-semester Spiritual Formation program. Those completing degrees from a distance must contact the Spiritual Formation Department regarding options for satisfying the MACS/MA(BS) Spiritual Formation requirement.
