MA in Cross-Cultural Ministries (MACM) Advising
The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MACM students often ask three questions:
- 1. How do I meet my 22-hour residency requirement?
Students should be aware that most World Mission core and elective courses are only available on the Dallas or Houston campuses during fall and spring semesters. Students in the MACM program should contact the World Missions and Intercultural Studies department for more information regarding planned elective offerings. 22 credit-hours of the MACM degree must be completed in a classroom at the Dallas or Houston campuses. Please see our Residency and Time Limits for more information regarding the residency requirement.
We have created a plan which allows students to satisfy residency and World Missions requirements for the MACM while spending only two semesters in Dallas:
Fall Spring SF110 (see SF Office) SF110 (continued) WM205 (3 hours) WM210 (3 hours) WM3XX (2 hours) WM215 (3 hours) WM4XX (2 hours) BE10X (3 hours) WM5XX (2 hours) ST10X (3 hours) BE10X (3 hours) Total: 12 hours Total: 12 hours
DTS provides several opportunities for students seeking to complete the MACM to earn residency credit:
Dallas or Houston Courses
Courses are offered in day, evening and weekend formats at our Dallas campus. Please see the DTS course schedule for current and future course offerings.
DTS offers one and two-week-long intensive courses during our Summer and Winter sessions each year. Students complete pre and post coursework, and attend lectures for one to two weeks. See the DTS course schedule.
- 2. How do I satisfy my Spiritual Formation requirement?
All MA/CM students are required to participate in the Spiritual Formation program.
Students residing in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area are required to participate in the traditional four-semester Spiritual Formation program. Those completing degrees from a distance in part must contact the Spiritual Formation Office regarding options for satisfying the MACM Spiritual Formation requirement.
- 3. How do I start my Servant Leadership Internship?
The MACM internship (INT140) is a two-credit, supervised field-based education course in cross-cultural church planting or church nurture in a foreign country or in the United States. This is completed under the supervision and encouragement of an experienced ministry mentor. Students should begin their internship after the completion of 30 credit-hours, WM205: Cultural Dynamics in Ministry, and progress toward completion of SF100 or SF110.
In order to register for the internship, students should meet with the Internship Office. An Internship Advisor will be able to guide students in selecting an appropriate internship.
