MA in Media Arts & Worship (MA/MW) Advising
The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MAMW (formerly MAMC) students often ask three questions:
- 1. How do I meet my 23-hour residency requirement?
Due to the availability of necessary Media Arts and Worship electives, students should be aware that it is not possible to earn the MAMW without completing a significant portion of the degree on the Dallas campus.
Additionally, 23 credit-hours of the MAMW degree must be completed in a classroom on the Dallas campus. Please see our Residency and Time Limits for more information regarding residency.
DTS provides several opportunities for students seeking to complete the MAMW to earn residency credit:
Courses are offered in day, evening and weekend formats at our Dallas campus. Please see the DTS course schedule for current and future course offerings.
DTS offers one and two-week-long intensive courses during our Summer and Winter sessions each year. Students complete pre and post coursework, and attend lectures for one to two weeks. See the DTS course schedule.
- 2. How do I choose my electives?
Students must select 15 total Media Arts and Worship elective hours from among approved electives. At least one course must come from each Media Arts and Worship area (Writing, Presentation, and Worship). For a current listing of approved electives, see the most recent catalog.
Students in the MAMW program should seek guidance from professors in their department regarding the courses that will best prepare them for their desired ministry context.
- 3. How do I complete my Media Arts Apprenticeship (formerly Internship)?
The Media Arts Apprenticeship (MW102) is the capstone experience of the MAMW program, which includes the development and enhancement of media-related communication skills and/or worship design and implementation in a ministry context. Students should select their apprenticeship site and mentor in conversation with professors in the Media Arts and Worship department after the completion of 30 credit hours.
