New Student Orientation

Done That Yet?

Entering Student Checklist

A checklist of the required surveys and assessments will be made available at the start of the semester. This checklist will be found in the bulleted list on your  page homepage. There you will find details, offices to contact, and deadlines for each requirement. The purpose of these assessments and surveys is to help integrate you into seminary life and additionally they serve to measure your development during your time at Dallas Seminary.

Website Orientation

DTS utilizes 2 primary websites to communicate with you as a student. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with both websites and the resources that each make available.

*You may access the DTS Students portion of CampusNet using your personal login and password provided to you by the Academic Advising Center.

Emergency Alerts
Occasionally during the winter months, inclement weather such as snow and/or ice makes road conditions dangerous for travel (remember this is Texas and we do not have adequate equipment for clearing snow or ice quickly). During such times, the Seminary may be closed. An announcement from DTS will be posted on the DTS website and broadcast over television and radio stations. Additionally, you may sign-up to receive emergency alerts via email or text by creating an account with the DTS Emergency Campus System.
Helpful Lists
Need help finding a doctor, church, or place to go for fun? Check out the lists found on on the Forms and Information page under the Student Services section. These lists contain all student-recommended people and places. Additional suggestions of things to do around Dallas can also be found on the Students page of the DTS website.
Finding Employment
Various companies and individuals in the Dallas area post job opportunities for DTS students and their spouses. Non ministry jobs can be accessed on under the General Info tab. Ministry opportunities are posted on the DTS website at www.dts.edu/jobs.
Housing
Whether you are looking for on-campus housing or off-campus housing, the Housing Department at DTS can help you to find a residence in Dallas. Check the Housing page of the DTS website for descriptions of on-campus residences as well as to get information about Dallas-area residences. They can even help you to find a roommate, or a place to stay at a reduced rate.
Spouses and Families
Students' spouses and families need, and generally desire, information concerning Seminary events, plans, and policies. Students are strongly encouraged to take home copies of the student newspaper and other communication pieces the Seminary distributes through student boxes. Spouses are encouraged to view the Kerygma online at www.dts.edu/kerygma. Students are encouraged to use a joint email account as their primary email account for receiving DTS emails. Email addresses may be updated on under the Your Info tab. Wives of seminary students are encouraged to get involved with S.W.I.M. (Seminary Wives in Ministry). Wives may email swim@dts.edu for more information regarding SWIM.
Dress Standard

The appearance of Seminary students is expected to reflect modesty and discretion. Unkempt appearance is not acceptable. While on campus for chapel, daytime and evening classes, and use of the library, men and women are expected to wear professional casual attire.

Professional casual attire includes shirts with collars, skirts, and pants that are pressed (dress trousers, Dockers-type slacks, etc.) Appropriate shoes and socks are also a part of this attire. Students are expected to refrain from wearing blue jeans, short pants, t-shirts, shirts emblazoned with printed messages, caps, athletic shoes, flip-flops, or sandals without socks. Wearing blue jeans, athletic shirts, and shorts is acceptable, within standards of modesty and good taste at times other than those mentioned above.

Please consult the Student Handbook for a full description of the dress standard and to become more familiar with many important DTS procedures.

Chapel Attendance Requirement
Dallas Seminary invites speakers from around the world to minister to students, faculty, staff, and friends during chapel services. Prayer needs, campus announcements, and items of general interest are all shared during this community time of rest, relief, and renewal.  All students who are enrolled in a master degree or certificate program are required to attend chapel. You can determine your chapel requirement and learn more about chapel on the Dallas Seminary Chapel page. Requests for chapel attendance reductions can be made during the first two weeks of each semester; requests will not be accepted after that time.
