kids running around lit Christmas tree

This year was the inaugural Lights on the Lawn Christmas event for the DTS-Dallas campus.  In light of the beautiful addition of the Bailey Student Center and Chafer Chapel, this season marks the beginning of many more festive events to come to the modernized campus (stay tuned for future announcements).  The 30-foot-tall sterling evergreen tree is approximately 11 feet wide at the base.  It stands on the great lawn, at the center between the Horner administration building and the new student center and chapel, on the edge of Apple Street.

On Tuesday, November 30, 2021, the Dallas campus faculty staff, students, and families were all invited to come out from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. to enjoy fellowship, games, hot cocoa, and refreshments.  It was a family and friend's affair of several hundred people–a collection of conversation, laughter, and worship/holiday songs on the great lawn.  Children played in the winter-themed bounce house, while other adults and children participated in the passport game.  The DTS Dallas campus student council hosted the game, which required players to visit each game table, collect a stamp in their book, and return to the registration table for a gift.

Around 8 p.m., participants flanked each side of the tree to commemorate the inaugural event. After a ten-second count down, the tree lit up in twinkling white lights (approximately 27,850 LED bulbs), along with the adjacent yard trees that girded the great lawn. The tree was as beautiful as the fellowship and occasion.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
