Jay E. Smith
Department Chair and Professor of New Testament Studies

“Dr. Jay” is a pioneer—he was the first to introduce the shaved head to the DTS faculty. To adapt an expression from columnist George Will, he is an amiable, low-voltage Calvinist with a decided Reformed streak. His favorites include rhubarb pie, oatmeal, and anonymity. His goal as a teacher is to defeat distraction and natural impulses and to re-train the heart and mind. He believes nothing matters more than the glory of Christ, and he hopes and prays that He will be his highest allegiance and deepest devotion.
