Since its inauguration in 1926, the W.H. Griffith Thomas Memorial Lectureship has invited noted scholars to Dallas Theological Seminary to give a series of addresses from the field of theological studies.

This year, the Theological Studies department welcomes Dr. Malcolm B. Yarnell, who will present two lectures celebrating the 1700th Anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and the Nicene Creed.

On February 4th at 11:00 AM, Dr. Yarnell’s topic will be “The Biblical Genius of the Nicene Creed: Spirit, Structure, and Content,” and on February 5th, “The Contemporary Relevance of Nicaea: The Need for and the Challenges to Its Retrieval.” The two lectures will be followed by a brown-bag lunch with a question-and-answer time with Dr. Yarnell from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in Lamb Auditorium.

Dr. Yarnell earned advanced degrees in theology, history, and biblical studies from Oxford University (2000), Duke University (1996), and Southwestern Seminary (1991).

He is a Research Professor of Theology at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Editor of the Southwestern Journal of Theology, Teaching Pastor at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, and a member of the Commission on Baptist Doctrine and Christian Unity with the Baptist World Alliance.

He is currently writing the second part of a three-volume popular-level dogmatics called Theology for Every Person: God, Word, and Spirit. Dr. Yarnell’s publications include Special Revelation and Scripture, a co-authored volume in dogmatics; Who Is the Holy Spirit? John Locke’s “Letters of Gold”; God the Trinity, Royal Priesthood in the English Reformation; and The Formation of Christian Doctrine.

Dr. Yarnell and his wife Karen (who is also a popular speaker and writer) are the parents of five adult children.
