Arrival
Tenants must schedule his or her arrival date and time in advance by contacting the Housing Office. Housing requires at least a two-week notice of arrival, but tenants are encouraged to schedule their move-in date early in order to improve the likelihood that they will be able to move in on their preferred date and time. Time slots are scheduled through the Relocation Coordinator in the Housing Office.

Check In
Thirty minutes prior to your arrival, please contact the apartment manager. Upon arrival, the apartment manager or an assistant manager will provide you with keys, moving equipment, and check you into your new apartment.
Lease Review Meeting
Tenants must attend a Lease Review Meeting, which is held in the Housing Office. The Housing Office holds lease review meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays. Meetings are typically scheduled for the first Lease Meeting time following your move-in.
Prorated rent for the month you move in and the security deposit (less holding fee paid per request of initial apartment offer) will be collected at this meeting; kindly come prepared to pay. Cash, checks, cashier’s checks, and money orders will be accepted during the lease meeting. If you wish to pay with a credit card, or E-Check, you may do so in advance of the lease meeting on your Appfolio portal. We are sorry, but no credit cards can be accepted in the Housing Office.
Utilities
Swiss Tower
Electricity
Residents are responsible for contracting with an electricity service provider for their apartment; please set up service with an outside provider prior to arrival. Monthly charges usually average around $30-$50 from October – April and $60-$100 from May – September. Deposit may be required depending on provider. There should be no need for a technician to be sent out, regardless of provider. Below are the most commonly used electric companies and their contact info:
- TXU Electric: www.txu.com/move; (800) 316-2135
- Reliant: www.reliant.com; (866) 735-4268
- Green Mountain: www.greenmountain.com; (866) 473-3689
- For other options, visit www.powertochoose.org.
Internet and Television
Spectrum and ATT U-Verse are the providers for Swiss Tower. A technician must physically come to your apartment. The visit requires the tenant be home during the time of installation. The tenant will need to make arrangements 24 hours in advance with the Apartment Manager to check out the key to the Communications Room in case the technician needs to access that room. It is not the Apartment Manager or the Housing Office’s responsibility to allow the technician access to either the Communications Room or your apartment if you are not present when the technician arrives.
- Cable outlets are located in the following areas: living room (long wall that adjoins the next apartment) and bedroom (shared wall with your study/second bedroom).
- Satellite dishes may not be attached to the outside of the building or to the window frame.
Washington Hall
Electricity
DTS resells electricity to tenants at the lowest residential rate available. The Housing Office will bill each tenant monthly for this utility through their portal. There will be a $25 late fee charge for payments received after the due date given.
Television and Phone Service
In Washington Hall, AT&T U-Verse is the only provider for hi-speed internet and digital TV service. To have U-Verse installed, you must simply call AT&T for the services wanted and contact the Apartment Manager 24 hours before your scheduled installation. The Apartment Manager will give you a key to access the communications room with the installer to complete your service. It is necessary that the tenant be present for the installation. The Housing staff may not handle this for the residents.
AT&T U-Verse Contact Number: 866.269.3259/ www.att.com
Previously, AT&T U-Verse services have initially denied that digital TV can be installed. If this happens to you, please give them your apartment number and ask them to check all available services. This process reveals that digital TV can, in fact, be ordered and installed for this location.
Laundry
Swiss Tower has laundry rooms on each floor. Washington Hall’s laundry room is located on the second floor. The machines are activated by credit card, debit card, or prepaid – refillable cards that may be purchased at big-box stores, drug stores and grocery stores.
Cost per load will be:
- Washers – $1.25
- Dryers – $1.25 for 60 minutes.
Users are able to go online or use a smart phone app to find out if machines are available, check on the status of each machine, and be notified when the cycles end.
Furniture
All apartments are unfurnished except for major kitchen appliances (not including microwaves), so residents will need to arrange for their own furnishings.
Mini-blinds are installed in each window, but you may put up curtains/drapes using only plastic anchors. Windows in Washington Hall are 5′-4″ wide and 5′-2″ high; arched windows on the 7th floor are 6′-2 5/8″ to the top of the arch. Window dimensions for Swiss Tower are available on the Window Dimensions pdf.
